Woman with USAA pet insurance on her computer screen.

The USAA (United Services Automobile Association) offers military members and their families insurance and banking products. Among its offerings are pet insurance policies administered by Embrace, a prominent company with more than two decades of experience in the pet insurance marketplace. So, is USAA pet insurance good or is it better to sign up with Embrace directly? Below is a snapshot of USAA’s pet insurance policies, but you can learn more in our Embrace review.

USAA Pet Insurance Review

Summary

As a USAA customer, you can bundle your pet insurance policy through them. However, if you aren’t a USAA customer and think their policies look good, we recommend insuring directly through Embrace since it administers USAA policies.

Pros

  • Save up to $25 as a USAA member
  • No per-incident limits on their claims as they use an annual deductible
  • No lifetime limit
  • Offers optional Wellness Rewards (not available in RI; must purchase in conjunction with pet insurance)
  • Pays claims within 5 days on average
  • Covers your pet if they travel outside the U.S. with you
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Up to a 10% max discount for multiple pets (5% in NY)

Cons

  • $1.00 transaction fee (waived if you pay annually) and $25 enrollment fee
  • If one leg has a CCL (ACL) injury prior to enrollment, the other leg will not be covered even if there are no prior issues; it’s considered a pre-existing condition
  • Only covers enrolled pets age 14 and younger for accidents and illnesses (accident only may be available for ages 15+)
