5 Reasons Why Living With Cats Is Absolutely Awesome

Cats are amazing creatures. Growing up, my family did not have any pet cats.

I discovered the joy of cats when my husband and I decided to adopt two kittens shortly after getting married more than twenty years ago.

The most cats we’ve at one time as indoor cats is nine. Currently, we have five indoor cats and care for two outdoor cats.

Of course, sometimes life with cats can be challenging, especially near the end of their life.

However, today, we are only going to focus on the positive aspects of living with cats. Here are some of my reasons why living with cats is awesome.

Cats Are Cute

This is a pretty basic reason to enjoy living with cats.

Cats are cute. All of them.

In the cat world, there are many breeds and color patterns. While some people have preferences, I feel that all of them are adorable.

Looking at a cat is like looking at beautiful art. They are graceful creatures each with their own personality.

Entertainment

Most cats are entertaining. Kittens have tons of energy.

Each cat can have it’s own quirks and habits. Some cats will carry toys around.

Some cats have funny sleeping positions  – my cats are all boring sleepers.

Some of my cats like to play with wand toys. A few have enjoyed cat tunnels.

Other cats like to roll around in catnip. Others will knock anything they can off of a shelf.

Watching them play and also playing with them is fun.

Relaxation

Cats can also help with relaxation.

Holding and petting a purring cat at the end of a long day is a wonderful way to unwind.

Studies have shown that petting cats can help reduce stress.

I also enjoy talking to my cats. They are great at listening without giving me unasked for advice.

Cats can make for good company.

A lap cat will sit with you while you watch a movie or a TV show. Other cats may choose to stay close by watching over you.

Caring for Cats

I enjoy caring for my cats.

The cats depend on me for food, water, shelter, and getting them medical care when needed.

We’ve experienced things with cats that I never expected. Such as needing to give a cat Miralax everyday.

It’s all part of the journey that makes living with cats interesting.

It’s also fun finding new things for them and we’ve done things to “catify” our home.

Earning the Trust of Cat

There is nothing quite like earning the trust of the cat. It feels amazing.

I’m not talking about the cats that will sit on you the first time you meet them and will approach any visitor that comes to your home.

Some cats require much more work to become friends with them, but it’s so worth it!

My first example of this was with our cat Violet. She was a stray cat who we rescued after she brought kittens to my yard.

She was shy and not trusting of humans. She was not feral. Her behavior was understandable giving that she was likely an abandoned housecat.

It took six months before she purred for the first time. Ten years later, and she still isn’t really a lap cat, but she likes to be petted and will follow me around the house.

She’s learned to trust my husband and me which feels awesome.

These are just some of the reasons why living with cats is amazing.
